How
did Anil Gandhi enter into the realm of dance?
Anil Gopal Gandhi was
born in a middle class family where dance was not supported so much especially
for the boys. But Anil was inspired from his mother, who was also a classical
dancer back in her late 20s. He followed her footsteps and started learning
from seeing her dance at home and then practicing alone with no other means.
Slowly, as he grew up he took part in different cultural events and ceremonies
at his school and college level. He received medals and scholarships for his
amazing performances at the competitions. He saved that money and later used it
to get trained from expert. And as he completed his college, rather than
continuing career as a science teacher, as wanted by his father, he became a
professional dance trainer. His teaching approach emphasizes not just the
technical aspects of dance but also the emotional and spiritual dimensions,
allowing students to truly connect with the art form.
Anil Gandhi then at the age of 26, opened his
own dance school, Dance Niketan in Bangalore, where he is training students
from 5 years of age to 50 and beyond. He says that that learning dance has no
age and there should be no restrictions at all. Other than his dance school, he
also teaches kids at slum so that they can at least have one skill which they
can use to get some work as they grow. He visit them every week with his team
and cover different areas to teach them some popular dance steps and forms. Through
this initiative, Anil Gopal Gandhi
aims to break down barriers and give every child, regardless of their circumstances,
a chance to dream and achieve. He believes that dance not only brings happiness
and self-expression but also acts as a tool for personal growth and
empowerment. Anil Gandhi's efforts are a testament to the transformative power
of dance and the positive impact it can have on individuals and communities.
His dedication to teaching and his commitment to making a difference in the
lives of those less fortunate make him a true inspiration in the world of dance
and beyond.
